Dr. Jeannie Little serves as Associate Professor of Trombone, Euphonium, and Tuba at Montana State University's School of Music within the College of Arts and Architecture, where she also directs the University Band. An active national performer and clinician since joining the faculty in 2015, she regularly presents at major events including the International Trombone Festival and International Women's Brass Conference.
Her academic credentials include a Doctor of Musical Arts in Performance and Literature from the University of Rochester (2015), a Master's degree in Music Performance from Northwestern University, and a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance from Florida State University.
Dr. Little's research centers on brass pedagogy with specialized focus on developing critical thinking in practice routines, embouchure injury recovery protocols, and evidence-based teaching methodologies. Her work bridges performance technique with educational psychology to optimize brass instruction across all skill levels.
Her creative output demonstrates consistent exploration of contemporary brass repertoire alongside jazz interpretations and classical masterworks, with particular emphasis on trombone literature spanning Tommy Dorsey's jazz legacy to modern compositions by Libby Larsen. Collaborative projects frequently feature chamber ensembles like the Bobcat Brass Trio and 406 Wind Quintet.
