Dr. Jeffrey Cottrell serves as the Associate Dean of the School of Music and Professor of Low Brass and Theory at Hardin-Simmons University (HSU). He leads the School of Music while teaching trombone, euphonium, tuba, composition, computer music, and directing the HSU Jazz Ensemble.

Research & Performance: A renowned composer and performer, Dr. Cottrell specializes in brass instruments, jazz fusion, and computer-assisted music. His compositions span orchestral, band, and chamber works, with global performances. He actively performs with ensembles like the Key City Brass Quintet, West Texas Jazz Orchestra, and Jazz Concho, and has recorded with groups such as Brave Combo and Keith Taylor.

Advising & Mentorship: Known for training students in brass performance, many of his pupils have earned placements in Texas All-State Bands/Orchestras and youth orchestras. His teaching emphasizes technical mastery and creative expression.
Labs/Teams: Leads the HSU Jazz Ensemble and collaborates with multiple ensembles, including the San Angelo-based Jazz Concho and the Key City Brass Quintet.
