Dan Aldag is a Lecturer in the Department of Music at California Polytechnic State University, Humboldt, where he has taught since 1994. He leads the Jazz Orchestra and Jazz Combos, teaches trombone, and instructs courses in jazz and popular music history. Aldag is recognized for his 2013 Excellence In Teaching Award and his contributions to jazz education.
- Education: BA from California State University, Fresno; two MM degrees (Trombone Performance and Composition) from the University of Illinois; DMA (Trombone Performance) from the University of North Texas.
Aldag is an active performer with the North Coast Brass Ensemble and has composed arrangements published by Ensemble Publications and Really Good Music. His works are performed globally and recorded on the Seabreeze Vista label. He advocates for jazz education through clinics (e.g., 2019 Jazz Educators Network in Reno) and serves as a founding board member of the Redwood Jazz Alliance, which has brought over 75 jazz artists to Humboldt County.
Teaching focuses include Jazz Pedagogy, Improvisation, and Rock and Roll History. He collaborates with schools and communities to nurture jazz talent.
