Dr. Dan Barrett is a Lecturer in Music at the University of Maine, specializing in Low Brass and Music Theory. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from Arizona State University, with research focused on Daniel Schnyder's music, and degrees from Brigham Young University and the University of Nevada, Reno. His teaching includes applied trombone, jazz theory, and orchestration. He leads the Maine Trombone Collective and Maine Brass Guild, performing statewide and collaborating with ensembles like the Bangor Symphony and Brian Nadeau Big Band. His published work, Solo Training for Trombone, aids students in mastering solo repertoire.
Performance highlights include solo engagements with the Carson City Symphony and Brigham Young University Philharmonic, as well as collaborations with renowned jazz artists such as Bob Mintzer and Byron Stripling. He directs a jazz ensemble and teaches at the Maine Summer Youth Music camp. Awards include national recognition in brass competitions. Beyond academia, he enjoys outdoor activities with his family.
