Jeanne Gang is a Professor in Practice of Architecture at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design (GSD), and founding partner of Studio Gang, an international architecture firm with offices in Chicago, New York, San Francisco, and Paris. She specializes in research-driven design that integrates ecological systems, community dynamics, and environmental stewardship. Her work spans museums, civic spaces, and urban projects, including the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, the American Museum of Natural History’s Gilder Center, and the Sustainability Commons for Stanford University.
Education: M.Arch with Distinction from Harvard GSD, Urban Design studies at ETH Zürich (Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar).
Research focuses on actionable idealism—design’s power to drive societal change through projects like the Arcus Center for Social Justice Leadership and Tom Lee Park. Her approach emphasizes material innovation and adaptive reuse of buildings, explored in courses such as Grafting the Aquarium (Spring 2025) and Platform for Reuse (Spring 2020).
Awards include the MacArthur Fellowship, Legion of Honor (Officer), and multiple design accolades. Current projects include the U.S. Embassy in Brasília and Clinton Presidential Center expansion.
Teaching roles include John Portman Design Critic (2017) and studios on materiality and cultural/environmental building reuse. Studio Gang’s research extends to publications like her 2024 book The Art of Architectural Grafting, blending practice with theoretical discourse.
