Jean Adams is a Professor of Dietary Public Health at the University of Cambridge, affiliated with the MRC Epidemiology Unit and the School of Clinical Medicine. She is also a MRC Investigator and Programme Lead in Population Health Interventions.

Jean’s research focuses on population-level influences on dietary public health, examining how social, fiscal, and physical environments shape dietary behaviors. Her work includes evaluations of policies like the UK ‘soda tax’, calorie menu labelling, and food marketing restrictions, aiming to create healthier food systems. She leads the Dietary Public Health group and contributes to global initiatives such as the Mandala Consortium and Fresh Street trials.

Jean has supervised numerous grants and students, including Hannah Forde’s research on the UK Soft Drinks Industry Levy (SDIL) and Susanna Mills’s NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship. She serves as Academic Editor for PLOS Medicine and leads the Population Health Interventions program at the MRC Epidemiology Unit. Her work spans interdisciplinary collaborations, including the Cambridge Global Food Security initiative, where she explores links between food environments and health outcomes.
