Nicholas Wareham is a Clinical Professor at the University of Cambridge, School of Clinical Medicine, serving as Director of the MRC Epidemiology Unit since 2003. He concurrently holds leadership roles as Co-Director of the Institute of Metabolic Science, Director of CEDAR (UKCRC Centre of Diet and Activity Research), and Director of the NIHR Global Health Group on Diet and Activity (GDAR).
His medical training commenced at St Thomas's Hospital Medical School, London, followed by internal medicine specialization in London. Advanced epidemiology and public health credentials were obtained through studies at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Harvard University (Boston, USA), and the University of Cambridge.

Wareham's research centers on obesity and type 2 diabetes etiology, emphasizing gene-behavior interactions and translational prevention strategies. He pioneered objective physical activity measurement through wrist-worn accelerometry implementation in UK Biobank and leads the InterAct project investigating genetic-lifestyle diabetes risk interactions across 4 million person-years of follow-up. His work extends to population-level dietary behavior determinants and interventions in both high-income and low/middle-income country settings.
