Dr. Jasreen Kular is a Research Fellow at the University of Western Australia (UWA), affiliated with the School of Biomedical Sciences and the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Science. She holds an honorary position at The Kids Research Institute Australia and previously worked at the Centre for Cancer Biology in Adelaide. Her research focuses on bone homeostasis, osteoclast biology, musculoskeletal diseases (e.g., osteoporosis, Paget’s disease), and cell signaling pathways. Her work bridges cell biology and translational medicine, with recent contributions to understanding bone metabolism and Group A Streptococcus (GAS) infection mechanisms.
Educational Background:
- PhD in The Role of Choline Kinase Beta in Bone Homeostasis, UWA (2008–2011)
- Undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences, UWA (2007)
Research Interests:
- Regulation of osteoclast function and intracellular trafficking
- Therapeutic targets for musculoskeletal diseases
- Cell signaling pathways in wound healing and cancer
- Microscopy-based analysis of bacterial invasion (GAS)
- Collagen biomechanics and tissue stiffness
Research Contributions: Her publications highlight advancements in bone metabolism (via Slc37a2 and lysosomal networks), collagen mechanics, and tumor progression mechanisms. Collaborative projects include the Lionheart FX Microscope initiative at UWA.
Awards and Grants: No scientific awards explicitly listed, but participates in major research grants, including the Lionheart FX Automated High-Content Microscope project (2025).
Lab and Collaborations: Current work in A/Prof Nathan Pavlos’ lab at UWA and prior collaborations with Dr. Tim Barnett at The Kids Research Institute. Research integrates advanced microscopy and cell biology techniques.
