**Jiake Xu** is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Biomedical Sciences, University of Western Australia (UWA). He holds additional roles including former Head of the Molecular Laboratory (2011–2023) and Head of the Division of Regenerative Medicine (2017–2021). His expertise spans osteoclast biology, bone marrow stem cells, and musculoskeletal diseases. Dr. Xu completed his medical training at Guangzhou Medical College (1985), earned a PhD from UWA (1994), and conducted postdoctoral research at Stanford University (1994–1998).
Research Interests: His work focuses on osteoclast-osteoblast interactions, bone marrow stem cell niches, and angiogenic dysregulation in diseases like osteoporosis and cancer metastasis. He also investigates natural compounds for osteoporosis treatment and uses ENU-induced mutant mice to study musculoskeletal disorders.
Grants & Awards: He has secured 20 NHMRC and 1 ARC grants as a chief investigator. Notable honors include the Australian Research Award (2023, 2024), inclusion in Stanford’s Top 2% Scientists (2022), and Fellowship in the American Society of Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR).
Teaching & Service: Teaches courses in pathology and medicine, including coordination of PATH2210. He serves on scientific committees for ANZORS, ANZBMS, and the International Chinese Hard Tissue Society (since 2005).
Labs & Collaborations: Leads research on osteoimmunology and bone regeneration, with collaborations in Australia and internationally. His lab explores novel therapies for bone diseases using nanomaterials and natural compounds.
