معرفی
Professor Jason Able is the Head of the School of Agriculture, Food & Wine at the University of Adelaide, within the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering and Technology. He holds a Professorial appointment focused on plant breeding and crop science. His research emphasizes enhancing crop productivity through molecular mechanisms, including miRNA regulation in stress adaptation and reproductive fitness. He leads the national faba bean breeding program and previously directed the durum wheat breeding program at the Waite.
- Key Research Areas: Crop genetics, frost tolerance, barley malt flavor, and microRNA networks in stress responses.
- Collaborations: SARDI, University of Sydney, NSW DPI, and international partners like the John Innes Centre.
- Industry Partnerships: Engages with grain and pulse stakeholders such as GRDC, Coopers, and Viterra.
His work integrates fundamental science with applied breeding programs, aiming to improve grower profitability and crop resilience. Notable achievements include releasing durum wheat varieties DBA Aurora, Spes, and Artemis, with DBA Aurora maintaining significant market share.
Grants and Funding: Invested through GRDC and other national/international bodies. Actively involved in supervising higher-degree research students in Masters and PhD programs.
Labs/Teams: Leads the Faba Bean Breeding Program and collaborates with multiple research groups on stress tolerance and crop improvement initiatives.
