معرفی
Sergio Moroni is a Lecturer in Crop Science at the School of Agricultural, Environmental and Veterinary Sciences, Charles Sturt University (CSU), where he is also affiliated with the Gulbali Research Institute. He holds a BSc in Agriculture (Plant Science), and MSc and PhD in Plant Breeding from the University of Alberta, Canada. His career spans roles at NSW Agriculture (NSW DPI) and CSU, with a focus on abiotic stress tolerance in crops.
Research Interests: Dr. Moroni's research centers on plant-soil interactions under abiotic stresses, particularly acid soil tolerance (Al, Mn, pH), drought tolerance, vernalization, and soil impedance. His work integrates genetics, physiology, and whole-plant responses, utilizing glasshouses, nutrient solutions, rhizolysimeters, and root imaging techniques like minirhizotrons and digital image analysis.
Recent Research Trends: His recent publications (2023–2025) emphasize climate-resilient wheat ideotypes, including 100-day wheats for late sowing, phenology optimization, and frost sensitivity reduction. These reflect a strong focus on adapting Australian grain systems to climate change through genetic and agronomic innovation.
- Developing new genetic approaches to decreasing the reproductive frost sensitivity of wheat (GRDC-funded, $1.3M)
- Evaluating 360-degree imaging for enhancing plant science education
- Co-supervision of HDR students in crop science
Collaborations & Engagement: He actively collaborates with national researchers and industry partners, presenting findings at GRDC Grains Research Updates for grower outreach. His work has significant applied impact in Australian agriculture.
