Ahmed Sallam

Prof. Ahmed Sallam serves as Professor in the Department of Genetics at Assiut University's Faculty of Agriculture, Egypt, having progressed through academic ranks since 2004 from Demonstrator to current Professor (2024).

His educational qualifications include:

• Ph.D. in Genetics (Molecular Breeding and Genetics, Faba bean) from Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Germany (2014)
• M.Sc. in Genetics (Quantitative and Population Genetics, Wheat) from Assiut University (2008)
• B.Sc. in Agricultural Sciences (Genetics) from Assiut University (2004)

Research focuses on crop resilience through genetic analysis of drought tolerance mechanisms in wheat and faba bean, utilizing genome-wide association studies (GWAS), molecular breeding, and nanoparticle applications. His work bridges quantitative genetics with field-based stress adaptation strategies.

Prof. Sallam currently supervises five graduate students across Assiut, Fayoum, Sohag, and Mansoura Universities on projects funded by STDF and ASRT, with four recent MSc completions. His research program demonstrates sustained focus on abiotic stress tolerance markers and yield trait optimization.

Postdoctoral experience includes:

• Visiting Scientist at University of Nebraska-Lincoln (2015-2017) in Dr. Stephen Baenziger's small grains breeding lab
• Visiting Professor at Leibniz Institute of Plant Genetics (IPK), Germany (2022-2023)
