Dr. Jane Suter is a Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management and Joint Head of the Work Management and Organisation Group at the University of York's School for Business and Society. Her research focuses on workplace mental health, employee engagement, work-life balance, and the role of managers in small businesses. She holds a PhD in Human Resource Management from the University of Manchester and has extensive industry experience, including work in IT analysis and HR roles.
Her current research examines mental health management in small businesses, funded by UKRI ESRC, and evaluates extended shift impacts on healthcare workers' wellbeing. Key projects include the 'Managing Mental Health in Small and Micro Businesses' initiative and a study on nurse working hours in mental health hospitals.
Dr. Suter combines quantitative and qualitative methods, often collaborating with industry partners. She has published widely in journals like the International Small Business Journal and International Journal of Nursing Studies. Her work aims to bridge academic research with practical workplace applications, emphasizing employee perspectives and managerial strategies.
She leads the Interdisciplinary Workplace Wellbeing Research Group and advises on policy and practice related to employee wellbeing. Her teaching focuses on HR management, leadership, and organizational behavior.
