Dr. Jane Carr serves as Head of the School of Media and Performance at the University of Bedfordshire. She holds a PhD from Roehampton University and advanced degrees in Dance Studies from Laban. Her career spans professional ballet performance, academic research, and community arts advocacy. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance.
Dr. Carr's research focuses on embodiment in dance practices, with projects funded by the Arts Council England and AHRC. Notable initiatives include the Bedfordshire Choreographic Development Project and work preserving Caribbean cultural heritage through the Dominica Centre of Excellence. She has evaluated the Black Dance Archives Project and contributed to interdisciplinary collaborations like the 'Possibilities of Different Geographies' installation.
Her scholarly output bridges dance theory and philosophy, examining topics like aesthetic value, diasporic identity, and archival practices.
