Jan Hogan is a Senior Lecturer in Fine Arts at the University of Tasmania’s School of Creative Arts and Media. She coordinates Drawing & Printmaking Studios and holds roles such as Head of Discipline (Art) and Treasurer of the Tasmanian Art Teachers Association. Her academic background includes a PhD from the Australian National University (2009), a Master of Arts (1995), and qualifications from the National Art School and UNSW.
Her research focuses on environmental and cross-cultural dialogues through art, emphasizing ethical engagement with the more-than-human world. Projects include investigations of the Derwent River, Indigenous precedence, and collaborative international printmaking initiatives. She has exhibited widely, with works held in major Australian galleries.
Teaching contributions include course design at UTAS and Charles Darwin University, emphasizing iterative processes and inclusive education. She has supervised over 20 doctoral and master’s students exploring themes like ecological art, Indigenous collaboration, and site-specific practices.
Awards include an Artist-in-residence at Megalo Print Studio (2014). Current projects include a research book on drawing methodologies and an ongoing Derwent River exhibition series.
