James A. Zingeser, DVM, MPH, is an Adjunct Professor in the Hubert Department of Global Health at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health. He has held dual affiliations with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) since 1989 and The Carter Center since 2003. His career includes extensive fieldwork in Africa, Europe, and Asia, focusing on global health epidemiology and infectious disease control.
Education: DVM from Michigan State University (1979), MPH from the University of Michigan (1990). Professional roles include CDC Ebola response team leadership in Guinea (2014–2016), FAO collaboration in Sierra Leone, and One Health initiatives to eradicate Guinea worm. His work integrates clinical veterinary expertise with public health, emphasizing cross-sectoral approaches to disease eradication and pandemic preparedness.
Key projects include Guinea worm eradication, polio eradication, trachoma control, and meningococcal meningitis interventions. He pioneered CDC's liaison role with FAO in Rome (2009) and led post-Ebola surveillance in Guinea. Currently advises Carter Center’s Dracunculiasis Eradication Program on One Health strategies.
