James G. Murphy is an Associate Professor of Philosophy at Loyola University Chicago, where he has been a full-time faculty member since 2009. His academic work spans metaphysics, philosophy of mind, philosophy of science, moral epistemology, and the philosophy of history and memory.
Education

Murphy’s research engages interdisciplinary approaches to philosophy of history and the ethics of social memory, alongside foundational inquiries in metaphysics, action theory, and science-religion relations. He has authored multiple textbooks, including War's Ends (Georgetown UP, 2014) and the recent Confronting the Irish Past (Anthem, 2024).
