James Fishkin is the Janet M. Peck Professor of International Communication at Stanford University, with a courtesy appointment in Political Science. He directs the Deliberative Democracy Lab and holds senior fellowships at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies. His research focuses on deliberative democracy, particularly through his invention of Deliberative Polling®, a methodology implemented globally to enhance informed public consultation. Fishkin earned dual Ph.D.s from Yale (Political Science) and Cambridge (Philosophy), and a B.A. from Yale College. His work has influenced policy in over 28 countries, including China, Mongolia, and Uganda.
