Dr. James Cunningham is a Professor at Aberdeen Business School, Robert Gordon University (RGU), where he has been actively involved in teaching and research since 2009. He coordinates the Small Business & Enterprise Research Group and serves as Associate Editor for the International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation while also sitting on editorial boards for several other prominent entrepreneurship journals including Entrepreneurship and Regional Development, Journal of Family Business Management, and Journal of Small Business and Entrepreneurship.
His research focuses on the social construction of entrepreneurial activity across diverse contexts. Key areas include leadership and identity in family business, the social status of entrepreneurs across cultures, entrepreneurship in creative sectors, and women entrepreneurship in developing economies. He has led significant research projects examining entrepreneurial contexts in Nigeria, Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan, with particular attention to gender dynamics and cultural influences on business development.
Cunningham's recent publication record (2021-2025) reveals a strong thematic focus on entrepreneurship in resource-constrained environments and cross-cultural contexts.
