Dr. Imaobong James is a Lecturer in Management at Aberdeen Business School, Robert Gordon University (RGU), where she serves as Course Leader for BA (Hons) Business with Human Resource Management, BA (Hons) Business with Marketing, and BA (Hons) Business with Data Analytics programs. She also coordinates key modules including CM4704 Business Strategy, BS1009 Business Perspectives, and BS2005 Digital Context of Business.
Her educational background includes a PhD in Entrepreneurship (2021) from RGU with a thesis on "Social capital and engagement in Nigerian small business marketing," an MSc in International Business (2014), an MSc in Information Engineering and Network Management (2012), and a BSc in Computer Science (2005) from University of Uyo.
Dr. James's research focuses on entrepreneurship with particular emphasis on marginalized groups. Her work explores intersectionality in entrepreneurship, disadvantaged entrepreneurs, inclusive entrepreneurship frameworks, and digital engagement strategies. She investigates how women entrepreneurs, migrant entrepreneurs, and informal business owners navigate complex social and economic constraints through social capital formation and digital resource utilization.
Her scholarly contributions have earned her recognition including a Top Cited Article award from European Management Review (2021-2022) and Fellowship with the Higher Education Academy (2021). She serves as an External Examiner for the University of Reading's MSc Digital Business program (2024-2029) and as a peer reviewer for several prestigious journals including Gender, Work and Organisation, International Journal of Gender and Entrepreneurship, and Journal of Small Business and Enterprise Development.
As an active member of the Small Business & Enterprise Research Group at RGU, Dr. James contributes to advancing knowledge in entrepreneurial ecosystems, particularly in the Global South context. Her interdisciplinary approach combines insights from management, gender studies, and digital technology to address complex challenges faced by marginalized entrepreneurs.
