Dr Tolulope Ibukun is a Lecturer in Economics and Programme Lead for the MSc Business and Management programme at Aberdeen Business School, Robert Gordon University. She is actively involved in research, teaching, and supervision across various business and management disciplines with a particular focus on entrepreneurship and economic participation.
Dr Ibukun holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Leeds, an MSc in Economics (also from Leeds), and a Bachelor's degree in Economics. Her doctoral research focused on 'Employee Engagement Practices and Job Satisfaction in Britain: Theoretical and Empirical Contributions,' completed between 2011-2015.
Her primary research interests include Women entrepreneurship, Artisan entrepreneurship, Immigrant entrepreneurship, Ethnic minority entrepreneurship, and Economics of Participation. Dr Ibukun's work explores how marginalized entrepreneurs navigate business challenges, particularly examining the intersection of gender, ethnicity, and digital engagement in entrepreneurial contexts. Her research often focuses on the Global South, with specific studies conducted in Nigeria and other African contexts.
Dr Ibukun's recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on women entrepreneurs in marginalized communities, examining how digital tools can serve as enablers for business growth while also presenting new challenges. Her work frequently investigates the relationship between empowerment, participation, and economic outcomes in diverse entrepreneurial settings, with particular attention to the effects of individualized engagement practices on job satisfaction.

Dr Ibukun supervises students at various levels, including doctoral candidates like Hamad Al Abri who is working on a DBA about Omani citizens in the logistics sector. She serves as an external examiner for multiple universities and reviews for several prestigious journals including Gender, Work and Organisation, International Journal of Gender and Entrepreneurship, and Human Resource Development International.
