James Bowling

James Bowling serves as a Professor in the Department of Art and Art History at Otterbein University, specializing in ceramics and sculpture instruction. His artistic practice bridges traditional ceramic craftsmanship with conceptual explorations of surface-form relationships in narrative figure-based works.

His educational foundation includes an MFA in Ceramics from Kent State University and a BS from The Ohio State University. As an active contemporary artist, Bowling's work has been exhibited across local, regional, and national venues, with current representation by Sharon Weiss Gallery in Columbus.

Bowling maintains significant professional affiliations through the National Council on Education in Ceramic Arts and serves as a trustee for Ohio Designer Craftsman/Ohio Craft Museum. His international engagement includes an artist-in-residence position at C.R.E.T.A. in Rome (Spring 2019) and co-teaching a Spain Travel Course, demonstrating global pedagogical commitment.
