Clay Leonard serves as Associate Professor of Art and Design in the College of Human Sciences and Humanities at the University of Houston-Clear Lake, teaching ceramics and sculpture with emphasis on social engagement through clay.

- B.F.A. in 3-D Studio Arts from Adrian College (2006)
Leonard's research explores meal-sharing rituals through ceramic serving forms, investigating how objects catalyze human interaction. His practice merges functional pottery with contemporary sculpture, positioning ceramics at the intersection of craft, design, and social practice. This focus has driven extensive exhibition participation centered on tableware design and dining culture, reflecting art's role in community building and communication.
