James Bidlack is a Professor in the Biology Department at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO), with a career spanning over three decades. He holds a Ph.D. in Plant Physiology from Iowa State University and has held leadership roles in the Metabolism Foundation and The Genome Registry. His work integrates plant biology, biochemistry, and renewable energy research.
- Education:
- Ph.D., Iowa State University (Plant Physiology, 1990)
- M.S., University of Arkansas (Agronomy, Soybean Physiology, 1986)
- B.S., Purdue University (Agronomy, Soil & Crop Option, 1984)
Dr. Bidlack's research focuses on plant physiology, anatomy, and biochemistry, with applications in phytoremediation, nitrogen fixation, and solar energy conversion. He has published extensively on plant enzyme activity, lignin biosynthesis, and agricultural sustainability, particularly in legumes and forage crops. His recent work explores gene loci in Escherichia coli related to bile salt sensitivity and solar cell technology using plant pigments.
His 15 most recent publications span topics from E. coli genetics to bio-based solar energy solutions, reflecting a multidisciplinary approach. Key subfields include genetic mutations, biochemical pathways, photovoltaic technology, and plant stress responses.
- Scientific Awards:
- Multiple House Cup awards (2012, 2014, 2019)
- Research Opportunity Awards (2003-2005)
- MERLOT and UCO Merit-Credit Awards (1996-2002)
- Teaching and Service recognitions (1995-2012)
Dr. Bidlack has supervised numerous undergraduate research projects and mentored students at UCO. His community involvement includes the Santa Fe Presbyterian Church, Bigfoot Research Organization, and leadership roles in professional societies such as the Botanical Society of America.
