Jaehyuk Choi, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Dermatology and the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center at UT Southwestern Medical Center. He serves as the inaugural Director of the Center for Cellular Therapies and Cancer Immunology and holds the Scheryle Simmons Patigian Distinguished Chair in Cancer Immunobiology. His research focuses on cancer immunology, cutaneous lymphomas, and engineered T-cell therapies, with NIH-funded work identifying actionable biomarkers in skin cancers.
Dr. Choi earned an A.B. in Biochemistry Summa Cum Laude from Harvard University (1998) and an M.D./Ph.D. in Immunology Cum Laude from Yale University (2006). He completed dermatology residency and postdoctoral training at Yale School of Medicine.
His research integrates genomic analyses of cutaneous T-cell lymphomas (CTCL) to uncover disease heterogeneity and therapeutic targets. Key interests include T-cell engineering, tumor metabolism, immune evasion mechanisms, and epigenetic dysregulation in lymphomas. Recent work harnesses naturally occurring T-cell mutations to enhance solid tumor therapies.
Publications emphasize oncology, immunology, and dermatology, with recurring themes in lymphoma genetics, immunotherapy resistance, and single-cell profiling of inflammatory skin diseases. Articles frequently explore PD-1/PD-L1 biology, metabolic reprogramming, and neoantigen-directed immunity.
- Awards: NIH New Innovator Award, Damon Runyon Clinical Investigator Award, Mark Foundation Emerging Leader Award.
He leads the Choi Lab, pioneering immunotherapies via molecular engineering of immune cells. Current projects include developing ΔNp73-targeted therapies for CTCL and optimizing CAR-T designs using patient-derived mutations.
