Dr. J. John Baer serves as Tutor, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Registrar at Thomas Aquinas College. He holds a B.A. in Classics from the University of California, Irvine (1994), an M.A. in Philosophy from The Catholic University of America (1999), and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Philosophy at the same institution (expected 2025). His academic career includes roles as a Lecturer in Philosophy at Catholic University (1999–2001) and a Richard M. Weaver Fellow (2000–2001).
His research focuses on medieval philosophy, particularly the works of St. Thomas Aquinas, and he has lectured on topics such as epistemology and philosophical pedagogy. Baer emphasizes the seminar method of teaching, valuing student-driven discussions of great works. He has received notable awards like the Penfield and Centennial Scholarships. Beyond academia, he balances a large family of 11 children with his roles at the College, reflecting his commitment to both intellectual and familial vocations.
