John Brungardt is an Assistant Professor of Medieval Philosophy at Newman University's School of Catholic Studies, specializing in Thomistic philosophy, philosophy of nature, and philosophy of science. He engages in dialogue between medieval philosophical traditions (particularly St. Thomas Aquinas and Aristotle) and modern scientific theories.
- Education: B.A. from Thomas Aquinas College (2008), Ph.D. in Philosophy from The Catholic University of America (2016).
His research focuses on integrating hylomorphism into cosmology, exploring the sapiential character of natural philosophy, and reconciling Thomistic epistemology with modern scientific abstraction. He has published extensively on these topics in journals like Synthese and the American Catholic Philosophical Quarterly.
Brungardt's scholarly work demonstrates a consistent interest in the intersection of Thomistic metaphysics with contemporary cosmology (2016-2022) and the philosophical implications of natural science. His publications include critical reviews of works on creative nature, theological cosmology, and methodological relevance of Aristotelian-Thomistic philosophy.
- Scientific Awards:
- Young Scholar Award (2019)
- FONDECYT Postdoctoral Grant (2017-2020)
