John Boyer is a Visiting Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Loyola University New Orleans, affiliated with the College of Arts and Sciences. His academic journey includes a Ph.D. candidacy at the Center for Thomistic Studies (University of St. Thomas, Houston), an MA in Philosophy from the same institution, and a BA in Liberal Arts from Thomas Aquinas College (California). Prior to Loyola, he taught philosophy at the University of St. Thomas (Houston).
Boyer's research centers on medieval Aristotelian scholasticism, with emphases on:
- Philosophy of science (causality, explanation, quantum physics)
- Aristotle's theory of causal explanation
- Scholastic developments by Albert the Great and Thomas Aquinas
- Philosophy of nature and Aristotelian-Thomistic traditions
His publications explore medieval philosophy, particularly through the lens of Aquinas and Aristotle, with recurring themes in natural science epistemology and scholastic adaptations of classical philosophy.
He serves as a senior editor for Reality: A Journal for Philosophical Discourse and teaches courses including Philosophy of the Human Person and Making Moral Decisions.
