Dr J Ewing is a College Assistant Professor in Law, Deputy Director of the Cambridge Family Law Centre, and Fellow of Homerton College, University of Cambridge. She holds a BA (Hons), Legal Practice Course, MJur (Durham), and PhD (Cambridge). Her research focuses on children’s rights in family law disputes, child-inclusive mediation, and the dynamics of intimate relationships. She co-authored Mapping Paths to Family Justice (2017), which won the Hart-SLSA Book Prize, and The right to be heard (2024). She contributes to policy initiatives via the Family Solutions Group and Family Justice Council’s Voice of the Child Working Group.
Her work bridges academia and practice, addressing gaps in family dispute resolution and mental health support. She has led projects such as Mediation in Mind (2020) and the Healthy Relationship Transitions initiative. Her research emphasizes children’s voices in legal processes and the societal impact of relationship education.
Dr Ewing collaborates with institutions like Queen Mary University of London and the University of Exeter on empirical studies. She advocates for systemic reforms to improve family court experiences and promote healthy relationship practices among youth.
