Lucinda Ferguson is an Associate Professor of Family Law at the University of Oxford and Tutorial Fellow in Law at Oriel College. She teaches Family Law, Children, Families and the State, and Tort Law in the Faculty of Law, and serves as Senior Member for the Children's and Family Law Discussion Group.
Her research focuses on theoretical foundations of family and children's law, with emphasis on:
- Children's rights frameworks in domestic and international law
- Legal regulation of parent-child relationships
- School exclusion policies and educational rights
- Private ordering in family dispute resolution
Analysis of her publications reveals sustained scholarly engagement with children's rights theory, family justice systems, discrimination in family law, and the impacts of legislative changes like Brexit on family disputes. Her work frequently employs theoretical analysis to address practical challenges in child protection, relationship recognition, and educational access.
She has received multiple teaching awards including the Oxford University Student Union Teaching Award (2011-2012), University Teaching Excellence Award (2015), and was a finalist for the Law Teacher of the Year award (2016).
She serves as an Associate Member of 1 King's Bench Walk and maintains research collaborations examining family justice systems internationally.
