Ivana Schork is a Lecturer in Animal Science at Hartpury University, affiliated with the Department of Animal and Agriculture. She holds a PhD in Animal Behavior and Welfare from the University of Salford, an MSc in Zoology from PUC Minas (Brazil), and a BSc (Hons) in Biological Sciences from UNIVALI (Brazil). Her academic roles include teaching postgraduate and undergraduate modules and supervising student research.

Her research focuses on animal behaviour and welfare, particularly using sleep as a welfare indicator in domestic dogs and captive giraffes. She integrates methodologies such as behavioural assessments, hormonal measurements, bioacoustics, and wearable sensors enhanced by artificial intelligence and deep learning. Her work aims to develop innovative, non-invasive tools for monitoring animal well-being.
The recent articles reflect a strong trend in applying AI and wearable technology to assess sleep and resting behaviour in dogs, using physiological and behavioural data. These studies highlight interdisciplinary approaches combining veterinary science, ethology, and machine learning to improve welfare assessment in kennels and shelters. The integration of cortisol analysis and telomere length as stress biomarkers further strengthens the scientific rigor of her research.

Dr. Schork actively supervises undergraduate and postgraduate dissertations in animal behaviour, welfare, zoo biology, and canine science. She is accepting PhD students and has been involved in research collaborations with institutions in the UK, Brazil, Austria, and Israel. Her work includes field studies on conservation, population monitoring, and the impact of human activities on wildlife. She has delivered invited talks and contributed to editorial activities, including serving as an editor for the International Journal of Equine Science.
Her research is supported by partnerships across international institutions, and she leads projects using AI-driven tools for automated welfare assessment. She is a key contributor to the development of ecoacoustic approaches in farmland management and environmental enrichment strategies for shelter animals.
