Isabel Galleymore is a Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of Birmingham, Department of Film and Creative Writing. She holds a PhD in English Literature from the University of Exeter, an MLitt in Creative Writing from the University of St Andrews, and a BA (Hons) in English Literature from the University of Reading. Her academic monograph Teaching Environmental Writing: Ecocritical Pedagogy and Poetics (2020) explores interdisciplinary approaches to environmental humanities education. She has held the Walter Jackson Bate Fellowship at Harvard University's Radcliffe Institute (2022–23), during which she researched cuteness's role in ecological discourse.
Her research focuses on ecopoetics, environmental writing, and posthumanist thought. Notable publications include the poetry collection Significant Other (2019), winner of the John Pollard Prize, and critical essays on topics ranging from anthropomorphism to empathy in environmental psychology. Her creative work often intersects with environmental ethics, as seen in her Amazon rainforest-inspired pamphlet Cyanic Pollens (2020).
Her recent poetry collection Baby Schema (2024) examines cuteness's cultural and ecological implications. Awards include shortlistings for the Forward Prize and Seamus Heaney Prize. Teaching credentials include a PGCert in Higher Education (2019) and prior roles at the University of Exeter and Reading.
