Ingrid Veninger is an Associate Professor at the Department of Cinema & Media Arts within York University's School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design. She is a filmmaker and educator dedicated to gender parity in cinema and innovative pedagogical approaches. Her work spans fifteen feature films screened globally at festivals like TIFF, Rotterdam, and MoMA. She is a member of the Directors Guild of Canada and has participated in TIFF Studio, Berlinale Talents, and Rotterdam Producer’s Lab. Ingrid co-founded the pUNK Films Femmes Lab and initiated the collaborative ONE(NINE) project during the pandemic. Currently, she is finalizing her film CROCODILE EYES for the 2025 festival circuit.
Research focuses on DIY methodologies, collective creation, and hybrid cinema. She advocates for inclusive leadership and new teaching models in film education. Awards include the WIFTS Visionary Award and EDA Best Director recognition. Retrospectives of her work have been held in Ottawa and Santiago, Chile.
In addition to her academic role, Ingrid has mentored emerging filmmakers through the Canadian Film Centre and served as a Screenwriter-in-Residence at the University of Toronto. Her initiatives like the Femmes Lab aim to support women filmmakers through creative labs and mentorship programs.
