Ingolf Thuesen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Cross-Cultural and Regional Studies at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Copenhagen. His academic work focuses on Near Eastern Archaeology with particular expertise in Jordan's Petra region and Mt. Nebo. He maintains active field research programs in the Middle East and contributes significantly to cultural heritage management through UNESCO-related initiatives.
Thuesen's research interests encompass Near Eastern Archaeology, early farming and urbanization processes, Cultural Heritage handling with UNESCO, and Archaeological science applications. His work bridges traditional archaeological methods with scientific approaches to understanding ancient civilizations in the Near East, particularly focusing on Jordan's archaeological landscape including the Petra region (Shqarat Msiad) and Mt. Nebo survey areas.
His recent publications (2021-2023) demonstrate a strong focus on Petra archaeology, Jordan Rift Valley excavations, and cultural heritage management.
