Claudia Glatz is a Professor of Archaeology at the University of Glasgow. Her research focuses on early states and empires, highland-lowland interactions, and cultural heritage protection in the Middle East. She leads the Sirwan Regional Project and Qala Sirwana Cultural Heritage Project, emphasizing community-driven heritage conservation in Iraqi Kurdistan. Prof. Glatz has held prestigious fellowships, including a British Academy Mid-Career Fellowship and an Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship.
Her field projects combine archaeological surveys with capacity-building initiatives. Recent work includes studies on organic residue analysis of ancient foodways and the role of feasting rituals in community formation. She co-edits the Tracing Transitions volume (2025) honoring Roger Matthews. Teaching includes courses on Near Eastern archaeology and interdisciplinary studies of food and power.
Prof. Glatz supervises multiple PhD students exploring topics like Hittite imperialism, Cypriot settlement patterns, and Egyptian trade networks. Her work bridges archaeological practice with contemporary heritage challenges, advocating inclusive approaches to cultural resource management in conflict-affected regions.
