Dr Indigo Willing is an Adjunct Research Fellow at Griffith University's Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research and holds visiting roles at the University of Sydney's Sydney Social Science and Humanities Advanced Research Centre (SSSHARC). Her work bridges sociology, skateboarding culture, and community activism. She holds a PhD in Sociology from The University of Queensland, complemented by a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from the University of Technology, Sydney, and a Journalism diploma from Macleay College.
Her research focuses on power dynamics, social justice, and subcultural spaces, particularly skateboarding as a lens for urban equity and inclusion. She co-founded Consent is Rad, We Skate QLD, and SSHRED network, advocating for marginalized communities in sports and urban planning. Dr Willing has been awarded prestigious fellowships, including the Churchill Fellowship and Rockefeller Research Fellowship, and has led projects on anti-racism and diversity for Skate Australia and the Australian Human Rights Commission.
Her leadership roles include editorial board membership for the Asian Australian Studies Series and the Skateistan International Advisory Board. She teaches qualitative research methods and has contributed to sociological studies on transnational adoption, Asian Australian identities, and gender equity in sports.
