Millicent Kennelly is a Senior Lecturer in Event Management at Griffith University's Department of Tourism and Marketing, part of the Griffith Business School. She holds a PhD from Griffith University (2011) and a First Class Honours in Human Movement Studies from the University of Technology, Sydney (2005). Her research focuses on sport events' impacts on stakeholders, including event experiences, leveraging, and legacies, with a focus on participatory events and mega-sport events like the Olympics.
Key affiliations include the Griffith Institute for Tourism (since 2012), Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research, and the Sport and Gender Equity Hub (SAGE). She has secured grants from the Australian Research Council (DP230101022) and the International Olympic Committee. Her work informs policies for organizations like the OECD and governments in Finland, the UK, and Qatar.
Recent publications include co-editing Active Sport Tourism: Global Insights and Future Directions (2020) and articles on gender equity, climate adaptation, and event legacy planning. She advises on sport tourism, sustainability, and event management strategies.
