Igor Stagljar is a Professor at the University of Toronto in the Department of Biochemistry, Faculty of Medicine. His career spans positions at the University of Zurich and the University of Toronto, with a focus on membrane protein interaction mapping using MYTH and MaMTH technologies.
- Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from ETH Zurich (1999)
- Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of Zurich
- Visiting Scientist at the University of Washington
The Stagljar Lab investigates membrane proteins in cell signaling and transport, targeting ABC transporters, receptor tyrosine kinases, and ion channels. Their work includes mapping protein interactions in human and yeast systems to understand disease mechanisms and identify drug targets.
Recent research trends include protein interaction networks in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), HDAC6 regulation of EGFR, and systems biology approaches to membrane transport. Technologies developed by the lab (MYTH/MaMTH) are now widely used for studying integral membrane proteins.
- Scientific Awards
- University of Toronto Innovator of the Year Award (2015)
- Corresponding Member, Croatian Academy of Arts and Sciences (2014)
- Rudjer Boskovic National Award (2014)
- CFI Leaders Technology Award (2006)
Stagljar teaches courses on membrane proteomics and cystic fibrosis. His lab collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to bridge basic research and clinical applications in molecular medicine.
