معرفی
Igor Lehnherr is an Associate Professor and Associate Chair, Academic in the Department of Geography, Geomatics and Environment at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). He leads the Environmental and Aquatic Biogeochemistry Laboratory, conducting interdisciplinary research integrating physical geography, limnology, and environmental chemistry to study climate change impacts on Arctic/Boreal aquatic ecosystems.
Research Focus: Primary interests include biogeochemical cycling (mercury, carbon, nutrients), climate change effects on freshwater systems, Arctic ecosystem dynamics, and pollutant transport. Key research methods include field studies, isotopic analysis, sediment core analysis, and experimental approaches.
Publication Trends: Recent articles (2018-2021) predominantly examine Arctic biogeochemical responses to climate change, with emphases on: mercury cycling pathways in freshwater systems, historical pollution reconstruction using tree-rings/ice cores, carbon sequestration in proglacial lakes, and emerging contaminants in Arctic sediments.
Student Advising: Actively supervises graduate and undergraduate researchers including:
- S. E. M. Varty (mercury transport dynamics)
- V. E. Wisniewski (Arctic hydrology)
- A. Ghotra (atmospheric mercury reconstruction)
Laboratory: Directs the Environmental and Aquatic Biogeochemistry Lab at UTM, supporting research on ecosystem metabolism, contaminant cycling, and climate-biogeochemistry interactions in northern regions.
