معرفی
Joshua Thienpont is an Assistant Professor and Environmental Science Program Coordinator at York University's Faculty of Environmental and Urban Change, where he researches landscape disturbances and ecosystem responses to climate change using paleolimnological approaches. His work focuses on permafrost thaw impacts on Arctic aquatic systems.
Education includes:
- PhD Biology, Queen's University
- BScH Biology, Queen's University
His research examines physical disturbances like thaw slumping and cryogenic landslides, reconstructing historical environmental conditions through sediment analysis to understand ecological changes in northern freshwater ecosystems.
Recent articles demonstrate strong focus on climate change impacts in Arctic/subarctic regions, with studies on:
- Permafrost-derived contaminants in aquatic systems
- Climate-driven biodiversity shifts
- Metal/pollutant transport mechanisms
- Long-term ecosystem change reconstruction
Awards and recognition:
- Teaching Award, Department of Geography
- W. Garfield Weston Postdoctoral Fellowship
- Fellow of Royal Canadian Geographical Society
He supervises graduate students in Geography and leads the Limnology and Paleoenvironmental Research Group investigating biogeochemical processes in changing northern environments.
