Professor Ian Garwood is a leading academic in screen studies at the University of Glasgow, specializing in audiovisual film and television criticism. He holds a PhD from the University of Warwick (1999) and has been at Glasgow since 2000, advancing to Professor. His research focuses on soundtrack analysis, narrative processes, American Independent Cinema, and experimental film formats. He has authored two monographs, including The Sense of Film Narration (2013), and pioneered audiovisual essays exploring topics like the role of supporting characters and sound design.
