Dr. Jiří Anger is a Research Fellow in Film Studies at Queen Mary University of London, leading a British Academy-funded project (2024–2026) on transitional audiovisual objects in digital landscapes. His work bridges media theory, videographic criticism, and archival practice, focusing on marginalized artefacts from the analogue-digital transition. He holds a PhD from Charles University (2017–2022), where his research examined the digitization of Jan Kříženecký’s early Czech films (1898–1911) and their impact on digital cinema theory.
Research interests include media archaeology, software studies, and the ethics of digital archiving. Notable outputs include his monograph Towards a Film Theory from Below (2024), winner of the BAFTSS Runner-Up Prize, and the BAFTSS-winning videographic essay Cycles of Labour (2023).
