Hyejin Yoon is an Associate Professor of Geography and Affiliated Professor of Urban Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM), within the College of Letters & Science. She holds a PhD from The Ohio State University and prior degrees from Dongguk University in South Korea. Her research focuses on economic and non-economic factors influencing regional development, cultural impacts on business behavior, and transnational mobility under globalization. She teaches courses such as Urban Geography and Quantitative Analysis in Geography.
Key research interests include globalization’s effects on cultural products (e.g., animation industries), labor migration, and gender dynamics in academic and labor markets. Her work explores how cultural norms and institutions shape economic outcomes, particularly in South Korea and North America.
Her recent publications address hate crime spatial patterns, pandemic-era urban inequality, and gender exclusion in academia. Yoon’s interdisciplinary approach bridges geography, sociology, and policy studies, with affiliations spanning urban and cultural studies.
