Hye Won Kim is an Assistant Professor of English at Kennesaw State University, affiliated with the Asian Studies and American Studies programs. Her research examines transnational intersections of drama, theatre, performance, and media through critical race theory, gender/sexuality studies, sound studies, and visual culture. She is completing a monograph titled South Korean Musical Theatre: Transnational Encounters under contract with Oxford University Press.
Her work appears in The Drama Review, Modern Drama, Theatre Journal, and Studies in Musical Theatre. Key themes include global cultural flows, anti-racist pedagogical practices, and the sonic dimensions of K-pop. She co-founded an anti-racist musical theatre reading group and has published collaboratively with scholars across disciplines.
Kim’s research bridges performance studies with contemporary cultural politics, emphasizing how marginalized voices navigate transnational spaces through artistic expression. Ongoing work explores queer performativity in colonial-era dramas and the materiality of sound in Korean popular culture.
