Hugo JUSKOWIAK

Hugo JUSKOWIAK is a Lecturer in STAPS (Sciences and Techniques of Physical and Sports Activities) at the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education of Liévin, University of Artois. He completed his doctoral thesis in 2011 titled 'One per thousand. Elements of sociology of training for the football profession' and was recruited as a lecturer in 2013. His academic journey began at UFR STAPS in Liévin in 2000, with the CAPEPS (Certificate of Aptitude for Teaching Physical and Sports Education) obtained in 2004 and an ATER (Temporary Teaching and Research Associate) position in 2008.

His research initially focused on two main themes: the creation of sporting elites and the conditions of entry, exercise, duration and evolution in the activity of technical supervisor of the French football elite. His current research program centers on the creation, recomposition and decomposition of the social bond and the processes of vulnerabilities and vulnerable individuals encountered in the world of football.

Dr. Juskowiak's publications reveal a strong focus on football sociology with particular attention to coaching professions, gender dynamics in sports, media representation of athletes, and the social integration aspects of sports in disadvantaged communities. His work demonstrates consistent engagement with contemporary issues in professional football, including the international mobility of coaches, gender representation, and the professional identity formation of football practitioners.

As an educator, he has supervised numerous Master's theses and is currently co-directing PhD research projects. He has also been actively involved in research grants, with recent projects including the ANR-funded MIMES project (2021-2025) focusing on sports coaches, and several studies examining media representation of French national football team players.

Dr. Juskowiak has held significant administrative responsibilities including serving as pedagogical coordinator for the first year of the STAPS degree program (2013-2019) and as specialty coordinator for Athletics (2014-2016). He has also been elected to various university councils representing students.
