Holly Porteous is a Lecturer in Marketing at the University of Strathclyde's Strathclyde Business School, specializing in gender studies and consumer vulnerability. Her research examines how inequalities are produced and reproduced in society from feminist perspectives, with particular focus on transformative service spaces.
Dr. Porteous completed her PhD at the University of Glasgow in 2014 with research analyzing constructions of normative femininity in Russian society through women's magazines and their readers. Her educational background forms the foundation for her current work examining gender dynamics in consumer and social contexts.
Her research interests center on feminist perspectives of social inequality, consumer vulnerability, and transformative service spaces. She explores how women-centric environments like the Glasgow Women's Library can ameliorate vulnerability and create social change. Her work bridges gender studies, consumer behavior, and spatial theory to examine how physical and social spaces can challenge patriarchal structures and create more equitable environments.
Analysis of her recent publications reveals consistent focus on transformative spaces and community building, with publications spanning 2022-2024 examining how service environments can address consumer vulnerability. Her work demonstrates interdisciplinary approach combining gender theory, marketing, and social sciences to examine spaces that empower marginalized groups.
