Yvonne MCFADDEN is a Lecturer in History at the University of Strathclyde, where she also serves as Co-Director of the Scottish Oral History Centre. Her research focuses on social and cultural history of 20th-century housing, gender dynamics in post-war Scotland, and the interplay of gender, consumerism, and class. She holds a PhD from the University of Glasgow and has contributed to heritage projects with organizations like Scottish Women’s Aid and Glasgow Women’s Library.

Her teaching spans undergraduate and postgraduate levels, including courses on disease and society, marginalized histories, and gender/health intersections in Britain, Ireland, and the USA. She actively engages in public history through exhibitions and storytelling initiatives.
Current projects include a monograph on her PhD research (under contract with Edinburgh UP) and collaborative work on deindustrialization’s gendered impacts. She has published creative works, including a short story based on historical research into Glasgow’s Belvidere Fever Hospital.
