Dr. Hilary Janysek is a part-time faculty member in Fine Arts at Southwestern University and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, specializing in flute performance, pedagogy, and music entrepreneurship. She holds leadership roles as Past President/Young Artist Coordinator of the Austin Flute Society and Chair of the National Flute Association’s Flute Clubs Committee.
Her research focuses on:
- Group creativity in chamber ensembles
- Flute choir repertoire diversity
- Application of positive psychology to reduce performance anxiety
- Music entrepreneurship models
Janysek maintains an active performance career, appearing with orchestras (McKinney Philharmonic, Victoria Bach Festival) and premiering works at national conferences. She directs a private studio of 30+ students whose competition achievements include placements in all-state bands and National Flute Association competitions.
Awards & Leadership:
- NAMM President’s Innovation Award (2017)
- Created the NFA Flute Choir Repertoire Guide highlighting diverse composers
- Organized 10+ NFA convention/virtual events
Education: Doctor of Arts (Ball State University), Master of Music (Ball State), Bachelor of Music Education (Texas State University). Currently pursuing a Positive Psychology certificate.
