Dr. Helen Wright is an Associate Professor in the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia (RCSWA) and Department of General Paediatrics at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH). She co-leads the statewide Child and Youth Health Network under Western Australia’s Department of Health. Her academic roles span teaching, research, and leadership with a focus on rural healthcare.
Educational Background: Graduated MB ChB from the University of Glasgow (1995), followed by postgraduate certifications in Rural and Remote Medicine (UWA, 2009) and Medical Education (University of Dundee, 2011). Completed a Master’s thesis on rural medical education in 2018.
Research Interests: Center on medical education innovations, particularly rural training models, peer-assisted learning, and interprofessional education. Notable projects include case-logging analyses for medical students and rural workforce development strategies.
Teaching Contributions: Developed the Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) Program in Paediatric Clinical Examination, expanded to rural sites. Received grants for initiatives like ethics workshops involving Law, Medical, and Philosophy students. Recognized with a Team Teaching Award (2015) and Faye Gale Fellowship (2018).
Awards: Recognized as 2020 Metropolitan-based Specialist Bush Champion for contributions to rural healthcare. Holds leadership roles including founding the WA Rural Paediatricians Network.
Labs/Teams: Active in RCSWA’s Regional Training Hubs, Child and Youth Health Network, and the teaching committees at both PCH and RCSWA.
