Sarah Moore is a Senior Lecturer at the Rural Clinical School of Western Australia (RCSWA), part of The University of Western Australia Medical School. She is also a practicing GP Obstetrician in private practice at Broadwater Medical Centre in Busselton and serves as Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee and Maternity Services Committee at Busselton Health Campus. Her academic work focuses on medical education with a rural emphasis, and she is actively involved in multiple RCSWA committees including the Research Steering committee, formative OSCE-writing committee, Curriculum committee, Wellbeing Working Party and Green Team.
Sarah graduated from The University of Western Australia in 2003 and completed her general practice training throughout rural Western Australia from 2007 to 2009. She began her academic career with RCSWA in 2012. In 2018, she enrolled in a Masters of Philosophy (Research) which she converted to a PhD in 2021.
Dr Moore's research spans several interconnected fields focused on improving healthcare in rural settings. Her work in Whole of Life Care encompasses both GP obstetrics and End-of-life Care, addressing healthcare needs across the entire lifespan. She is a passionate advocate for Mindfulness in Medical Education, developing and researching online mindfulness training programs to reduce stress among medical students and junior doctors. Her commitment to Rural medical education is evident through her leadership in establishing networks and workshops that promote rural medical training and career opportunities. Additional research interests include Aboriginal health, medical humanities, and advance care planning, reflecting her holistic approach to healthcare and education.
Dr Moore has received notable recognition for her contributions to medical education:
- UWA Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry Excellence in Teaching Award: Small Group Learning, Practicum Setting (2013)
- Faye Gale Fellowship (2019) for attendance at the Whole Person Care Program at McGill University
In her academic role, Dr Moore has supervised GP registrars and medical students since becoming a fellow of RACGP and ACRRM. She has been instrumental in developing innovative teaching approaches, including interprofessional learning workshops and interactive online learning resources. Her research is supported by significant grants, most notably the 'Quality in End-of-Life Care' project funded by Lishman Health (2017-2019) and the 'RCSWA Mindfulness Program' (2016-2017). She serves as the mindfulness and self-care champion at RCSWA, regularly facilitating teaching sessions on these topics.
Dr Moore has established several impactful professional networks and initiatives. She founded the WA General Practice Obstetricians Network in 2015 to support rural GP obstetricians, and the Holistic Health Practitioner Network (2015) which grew to 80 members and organized the South West Wellness Festival (2016-2018). She is an active member of the UWA Medical Humanities Network, promoting creative and poetry writing workshops for colleagues and students. Through the Rural Clinical School of WA Regional Training Hubs project, she has developed annual workshops to expose medical students and junior doctors to rural GP obstetric training opportunities.
